Caretaker/Cleaner

Wirksworth Town Council are looking for a reliable, trustworthy and flexible individual to join their team.

The caretaker’s role is to be part of a team ensuring the cleaning, gardening & maintenance of the Town Council buildings & grounds.

Duties include:

  • Opening & closing of the Town Hall, Memorial Hall, Barmote Croft Toilets & Tuesday Market.
  • Dealing with the general public, ensuring rooms are ready for hire.
  • Inspections of buildings and play areas.
  • Cleaning of Town Council buildings & public toilets
  • Some light gardening and maintenance (skills dependant)

The Town Council buildings are operated 7 days a week (limited bank holidays). The caretaking team work on a rota basis during the week providing cover morning, afternoon and evenings. In addition, caretakers work one weekend in 3 and there will be occasional late finishes (between 10pm- Midnight). There is flexibility around shift times and a generous pension contribution.

SCP Pay Scale: 3         21 hours per week           £12.45 per hour + enhancements and overtime

Hiring the Hall

Main Hall

We have  two buildings with rooms to hire on an hourly basis, and the newly renovated Fanny Shaw’s Community Building (FSCB) which is operated on a key loan system.

Town Hall:- The Main Hall is large, suitable for a variety of uses – dance, exercise, large meeting space, wedding reception, family parties, musical events, etc, whilst other rooms – the Club Room, Ante Room, Council Chamber, are suited to smaller classes/groups. All rooms are available for hire during the day & evening during week days & weekends.

Memorial Hall:- the Hall & Kitchen are available to hire for meetings, parties, fayres, events and classes/groups, during the day & evening during week days and weekends.

Fanny Shaw’s:- Community building key available free of charge for use by groups such as: parents, schools, nurseries, scouts & not-for-profit groups holding events on the park.
