The Town Council in your community
The Town Council’s fundamental principles, which will underly all council decisions are Community Cohesion, Communication and Environmental Impact.
Operating by these principles, positive actions by the council in recent years include taking over the running and maintenance of the weekly market and the public toilets along with three play areas from the District Council, and taking over the provision of town Christmas tree and lights from the Rotary club.
Over the past year, since March 2024, the council has provided grants to the following organisations:
Bolehill Improvement Group £250
NOW (Skate Park) £2650
NOW (Town Promotions) £1000
Parkrun £600
Stoney Wood Group £2200
Wirksworth Festival £1000
Wirksworth Carnival £1000
Wirksworth Community Orchestra £100
Wilder Wirksworth £720 *
The Mayor also made contributions of £360 to the Music Centre and Aquabox. Several groups such as Twinning, Festival, Safer Roads, the Infant School and NOW (Skate Park) received support for room hire at the Town Hall and other groups such as Stay & Play, the Farmers Market and The Glee Club receive support via storage.
The Town Council is pleased to support local groups and organisations in order to sustain Wirksworth as a vibrant town and to provide and improve facilities .
