Wirksworth Town Council Initiatives and Proposals for 2009 – 10

ARTS:

  • To provide continued support through grants and concessionary lettings where appropriate and requested for the Wirksworth Festival, Carnival, Well Dressing and Scarecrow Festival

COMMUNITY GROUPS:

  • To provide continued support through grants and concessionary lettings where appropriate and requested for NOW, Wirksworth Twinning Association, Civic Society, Stoney Wood Group, Sustainable Wirksworth, B.M. & W Brass Band, the Heritage Centre and others.
  • Continue liaison, representation and active participation with Community Groups where appropriate.

ENVIRONMENT:

  • To provide support as deemed appropriate for the Church Walk Project (Civic Society).
  • To upgrade and replace community seats in the town where appropriate.
  • To replace the wooden flower tubs – Market Place
  • To progress replacement of Town entrance signs.
  • To continue campaigning and supporting action against dog fouling, litter and parking on grass verges and pavements in the town.
  • To continue investment in and use of DCC Minor Maintenance Agreement for clearance of town footpaths and support the retention of rights of way.
  • To monitor grit bin provision in the winter months
  • To support and promote cycleways in the locality.
  • To support the continuing development of Stoney Wood

BUILDINGS:

  • To progress the upgrade and refurbishment of the Town and Memorial Halls.
  • To progress necessary masonry work and continue to monitor the Town Hall façade.
  • To invest in energy saving measures where appropriate.

LOCAL ECONOMY:

  • To use local contractors where competitive and appropriate.
  • To provide continued support for the Wirksworth Farmers Market as deemed necessary.
  • To assist and support the setting up of a Retail Group for Town Traders.
  • To support the DCC initiative on "Shop Local"

OUTDOOR FACILITIES:

  • Provide support for a feasibility study for the renovation and development of Gorsey Bank Recreation Ground
  • Promote use of Harrison Drive Salt Tip for ancillary car parking and support appropriate building development there.
  • Support development and creation of parking area at Bolehill.
  • Invest in the transition to LED based Christmas Lighting
  • To support the further development of Fanny Shaw Playing Field (Phase 2)

TOWN COUNCIL:

  • Review letting charges on an annual basis.
  • Consider review of service contracts on a 3 year basis.
  • Monitor and allocate for investment budget underspend.

INFORMATION & PUBLICITY:

  • To develop use of Town Council website and publicise work of the Town Council in the local media where appropriate.
  • To publish a WTC News sheet for residents.
