Council Meetings

The Town Council has two Committees:

Planning & Environmental Affairs (usually held the first Monday in the month)
Chair = Councillor Steve Maskrey

Town & Finance (usually held the second Monday in the month)
Chair = Councillor Alison Clamp

Wirksworth Town Council choose to allow Open Forum at Council Meetings each month (there is no legal requirement to do so). Open Forum is a short period of time allocated by the Chair (maximum of 10 minutes) to give members of the public the opportunity to raise issues of concern with Councillors. (Members of the public may, of course, also raise issues in writing, addressed to the Town Clerk).

Members of the public are not permitted to speak during Council Meetings and so the meeting is suspended during Open Forum to allow members of the public to address the Council. However, no debate or discussion will be entered into by the Council during Open Forum. The matter cannot be dealt with at that meeting (unless the item is already on the agenda for the meeting) The points raised will be noted and may be placed on a future agenda for discussion and/or action.

After Open Forum, the meeting will be reconvened. Members of the public may remain but may not speak while the meeting is in progress.

Members of the public and press may be asked to leave the Council Chamber if a confidential item is to be discussed, ie where publicity to the matters under discussion would be prejudicial to the public interest by reason of the confidential nature of the business to be transacted.

THE COUNCIL WILL NOT TOLERATE VERBAL OR PHYSICAL ATTACKS ON COUNCILLORS – MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE, OR BE EVICTED FROM, THE COUNCIL CHAMBER IF THEY BECOME IMPOLITE, ILL MANNERED, ABUSIVE OR AGGRESSIVE.
